How is your cinnabar lacquer products made?

Postby lacquerk » April 3rd, 2010, 11:19 am

I know traditionally Chinese cinnabar lacquer was made from applying lacquer to a brass or wooden base by layers and letting the lacquer to cure before each coating.

How are the products you carry on your website made?

Thanks.

The cinnabar lacquer products we carry are made from resin and molds. The red color comes from cinnabar pigment as in traditional lacquer making process.

Once the lacquer ware comes out of the cast and completely dries, skilled artisans will hand carve the surface to give it a human touch and to remove any flaws from casting.
